PHIL BRYANT
As the title says, this site is about the restoration of a Kawasaki Z1000H once owned by my wife's Uncle Phil who sadly passed away on the 21st December 2011. I was given his Kawasaki Z1000H restoration project by his son George and my intention is to follow through the project and run the bike as a 'sunny day bike' maybe taking it to the odd classic bike event.
The bike was originally owned by Simon Leach and then 18 months into its life was purchased by Jerry Johnson. Simon, Jerry and Phil all worked for Rolls Royce in Patchway, Bristol. Jerry contacted me through the web site and gave me a bit of the back story telling me that he even took it down in to France and toured Nice and Cannes. Jerry was to sell the bike to Phil in 1984 to help finance a house purchase but in 2001 he bought another Z1000H which he tells me is now in need of a little TLC. From what I can tell Phil ran the bike for a few years before taking it off the road and worked (off and on) to restore it.
The bike had become a bit of a labour of love, with Phil even machining some of the replacement parts and I know at one point I saw the engine on his living room table and various parts scattered around the kitchen! There's a photo of the bike in Phil's living room here in one of my blog posts. Thanks to Judy (Phil's ex-wife for the photo)
This is my first restoration project and I'm not what you would call a skilled mechanic, so it's going to be an experience.
Let the fun begin. Cheers Phil!
- Thanks to Jerry Johnson for some of the background information as well providing some old photos from his trip down to the South of France.
