Ian's 40th Birthday Ride
We used Ian's 40th Birthday as an excuse to do an extended weekend ride into Wales taking in a camp site that I knew in Pembrook and some of Snowdonia National Park. I had used the Best Biking Roads web site to plan a route on the Garmin 660 which proved a good move. Prior to the weekend the weather was rather wet but took a turn for the better just in time.

Camp Sites
Trefalen Farm, Pembrokeshire - I had stayed here a few years back in my touring caravan so had prior knowledge of the site. To say its basic is accurate. There's a field, lots of grass and a toilet block with cold running water and that's your lot. The upside of this is that its not in the least commercialised and the views are stunning as the field is right on the cliff.
Tent £5 per night
Dolgellau, Snowdonia - We hadn't booked anywhere in Snowdonia mainly due to not knowing what the weather was going to be like. If it was piddling down then we would have tried to get a B&B. As it happened it was glorious sunshine so we checked in at this site. Level pitches and a clean shower block with hot showers - just what was needed!
Food
The coast route is packed with places to stop and eat but we chose the small port of Aberaeron. The 'New Celtic Restaurant' (on Market Street - next to the harbour car park) supplied us with some really great Sausage and Chips which we ate outside in the sun.
On Saturday evening we rode into Dolgellau as we had been told there was a music festival on in the village. Other than a few posters we didnt see any signs of a festival though. We ate at Y Sospan (Queens Square) which served up some great food.
