UPDATE: Thanks to z1bman on the Z1 Owners Club forum I now know that this is actually a 4x8mm roll pin. Kawasaki Part 555A0408 PIN-SPRING. Available from a number of outlets at an average of less than £2.
Pete has been struggling with a nipple that isn't there on my crank shaft. The photo is not my crank but this one clearly shows a nipple on the end of the shaft - right at the bottom of the photo. There is simply a hole in mine so the question is ..is it required?
UPDATE: Thanks to z1bman on the Z1 Owners Club forum I now know that this is actually a 4x8mm roll pin. Kawasaki Part 555A0408 PIN-SPRING. Available from a number of outlets at an average of less than £2. The wiring loom tape was looking a bit ropey and worn away in places so I decided to strip off the old tape and replace the lot. After a bit of research I decided on 3M Super 33+ tape. A rather sticky job but worth while I think especially as I found a broken wire ..
One of the master cylinder screws had sheared off on me right at the start of the restoration and today I finally got around to tackling it. I used a standard drill bit to make a pilot hole and then a screw extractor. All in all this bit was a lot less bother than I thought it was going to be.
The fun bit was the sheared drain screw on one of the front shocks. This was a real pain as it was the last thing I added after rebuilding the shock! I had a go at using the screw extractor but this didn't work out so I ended up drilling a pilot and then re-tapping the thread. Of course all this meant that I had to strip the shock down and thoroughly clean it of any metal shards - oh what fun I had! I must say though, I am getting a dab hand at removing the inner nut. Picked up the wheels from Warren at RPA earlier and as usual I am very pleased with the job he has done. To date they have coated all of my parts and haven't given me a reason to try anyone else.
After many hours of research I ordered Bridgestone BT45's front and rear tyres. I read a comment or two about some people saying they don't look 'retro' enough but they look good to me and I haven't read a bad handling report so decided to give them a try. Tyres should be here within the week (M&P) so I should be able to start building up the wheels on the weekend. |
